New Flask Offering for the Very First Time

For years we have talked to so many of you of our plans for a seed lab and offerings of flasks.  We are so proud to offer our first lasks for sale.

Although our flasks generally contain at least 25 - 40 seedlings unless otherwise marked, we recommend sending the flasks in community pots (compots).  We cannot guarantee a safe delivery otherwise, because of possible tumbling in the flasks.  Our flasks are either glass (Ehrlenmeyer) or snap-on plastic flasks.   Some of the flasks are ready now to be shipped; others will be ready in 1-2 months.  You may reserve your choice now, with payment due upon shipment.

A discount is offered as follows:  0 – 300 net;  301 – 600 10%; 601 - 1000 15%; 1001 – 1500 20%; and above 1500 25%.  All flasks/compots will be shipped by US Priority Mail ($8 for one flask; $2 for each additional flasks in the same shipment) or FEDEX 2nd day beginning at $12.

Phragmipedium Sunset Glow Hybrids

F-042  Phragmipedium Sunset Glow ‘Twilight’ AM/AOS x richteri ‘Twister’     $100.00

The possible result of this new cross is a small stature windowsill plant with good color from the Sunset Glow, good flower size from the triploid cross, and rippled petals from the richteri.  Richteri in the past has proven to be a good parent.  ‘Twister,’ an Orchid Zone product, has good color, large pouch, and great highly twisted petals.

F-024  Phragmipedium Sunset Glow ‘Twilight’ AM/AOS x Lutz Rolke ‘Emily’ AM/AOS     $150.00

This new cross  offers major award possibilities along with size and color.  The Lutz Rolke intense yellow, petal shape and size should contribute to this cross.  Lutz Rolke has been a reluctant parent, and we feel lucky to have a few flasks of this cross.

F-041  Phragmipedium Sunset Glow ‘Twilight 4N x besseae ‘Neon Baby’    $100.00

This new cross that should follow in the footsteps of Inca Fire and Jason Fischer.  Intensified color from a besseae that may be 4N and the size inherited from Sunset Glow should make an interesting new high ploidy cross.

F-002  Phragmipedium Sunset Glow ‘Twilight’ AM/AOS 4N x czerwiakowianum    $150.00

The 4N Sunset Glow crossed with the diploid czerwiakowianum should give a vigorous triploid that inherits the Sunset Glow color and size with some hint of the rippled petals of the pollen parent.  This new cross promises a lot in color and size.  NEW CROSS

F-016  Phragmipedium (Memoria Dick Clements x sargentianum) x Sunset Glow ‘Twilight’ AM/AOS 4N  $100.00

This new cross uses our Mem. Dick Clements x sargentianum that has great size and a pouch influenced by sargentianum.  This cross with Sunset Glow ‘Twilight’ should have great size and color.  It is interesting that the 4N plant here is the pollen parent.  It will be exciting to see the result of this cross.

Phragmipedium richteri Hybrids

F-019  Phragmipedium richteri ‘Twister’ x Franz Glanz ‘Yellow Sunset’  $100.00

This new backcross to richteri uses a Franz Glanz that carries a spray of flowers from several branches.  Going for a small stature windowsill plant with greens, maroons, and yellows.  Richteri ‘Twister’ adds a large pounch a more twist in the petals.  NEW CROSS

F-027   Phragmipedium Wössen (schlemii [‘Buckley Pink Pearl x self] x richteri ‘Twister’)   $100.00

This Wössen remake is different from the original because schlimii is the pod parent.  Schlimii as the pod parent should give better branching, be longer blooming, and a taller stem than the reverse cross.  In addition, the richteri “Twister’ from Orchid Zone is clearly on steroids.  The pouch is large and the petal twist is dramatic.  This plant of small stature with pink blooms should be a good windowsill plant.

F-047  Phragmipedium Franz Glanz (richteri ‘Twister’ x besseae ‘Neon Baby’)    $80.00

Richteri ‘Twister’ as a pod parent should give a plant of small stature, lots of petal twist, and good color.  This remake of Franz Glanz uses the rickteri ‘Twister’ from Orchid Zone and a high ploidy besseae with a vigorous growth habit and outstanding color.  After blooming a Franz Glanz for the last 2 years it has become one of my favorite Phrags.

F-047  Phragmipedium Franz Glanz (besseae ‘Neon Baby’ x richteri ‘Twister’)    $80.00

A remake of Franz Glanz with a neon orange red besseae that is possibly ‘4N.’  This cross uses besseae as the pod parent instead of richteri pod parent as in the original cross.  Expect more intense reds – organges that the standard Franz Glanz.  These will small plants, easy to grow, and great for the windowsill.

Phragmipedium Remakes

F-003  Phragmipedium Mem. Dick Clements (sargentianum ‘Really Red’ x besseae ‘Neon Flash’ or ‘Spence’)  $60.00

A remake of a dark red favorite.  The sargentianum ‘Really Red’ is special, and the besseae ‘Neon Flash’ (2N) has a good branching characteristic and is very vigorous.  Besseae ‘Spence’ is more classic, Peruvian, and has wide petals.  Both besseaes came from Orchidview.

F-029  Phragmipedium Cape Sunset (Eric Young ‘Rocketfire’ 4N x schlimii [‘Buckley Pink Pearl’ x self])  $80.00

Another one of my favorite Phrags, this remake using Eric Young ‘Rocketfire’ lends size and the schlimii ‘Buckley Pink Pearl’ should give a light pink bloom and good size.  This cross should be supertriploid with future award potential.

F-033  Phragmipedium Rosy Charm (Mem. Dick Clements ‘ORCHIDbabies’ x schlimii [‘Buckley Pink Pearl’ x self])  $75.00

This flask of Rosy Charm is a remake of a popular Phrag.  The Mem. Dick Clements used has a deep red color and a vigorous branched inflorescense that carries 4 or 5 blooms simultaneously.

F-046            Phragmipedium Mary Bess (caricinum ‘EFG’ x besseae ‘Neon Baby’)  $50.00

A remake of Mary Bess could generate outstanding color from besseae ‘Neon Baby’, in addition to being of small stature, and a perfect windowsill plant.

OTHER Phragmipedium and Paphiopedilum Flasks

F-032  Phragmipedium fischeri             (SPECIES)     $100.00

A dark phase fischeri, this Paphanatics flask actually replated to give 8 flasks.  I think many of the plants proliferated so there will be some clones in these flasks.  A chance to obtain a limited edition from Paphanatics known for outstanding plants.  (20 plants)

F-045  Phragmipedium Cape Sunset ‘ORCHIDbabies’ AM/AOS x besseae ‘Neon Baby’    $100.00

Using our awarded Cape Sunset that has outstanding size, in combination with the neon orange besseae ‘Neon Baby’ should result in deep rich colors (roses to pink).  NEW CROSS

F-036  Paphiopedilum Pinocchio ‘Dr. Jim’ x concolor ‘ORCHIDbabies’    $80.00

An unregistered Paph cross)   The vigorous Pinocchio used as a parent now has 5 bloom spikes, some blooming for almost two years.  The concolor has good stem height and flower count with a light yellow color.  Both plants have been blue ribbon winners at orchid shows.

F-028  Paphiopedilum Berenice (robelinii ‘ORCHIDbabies’ x lowii [‘Cloud Leopard’ x ‘Saban’])     $80.00

(Limited)  One of my favorite multifloral Paphs because of its free-blooming and good growth characteristic, Bernice is one of the greatest multifloral paphs to own.  The lowii used was obtained from Hoosier Orchids.  It has not been awarded to date but did win a blue ribbon over two other lowii’s at a recent orchid show.  The lowii and the robelinii both mature a growth in one year and our Berenice has this characteristic.
